During our visit to Ecuador, Chakana Cruz wasn’t a farm we were familiar with or had planned to visit. Established in 2020, it’s a newer farm with younger coffee trees. We were introduced to Joe, the producer, through Fabricio and his brother Ramiro from Hacienda La Florida, who have been supporting him with agronomy and processing practices.
While Joe was a great person to meet and made a strong impression, none of the coffees from Chakana Cruz stood out as the right fit for us during that trip’s cupping. However, during our second purchase with Fabricio, he recommended us this natural process from Chakana Cruz, telling us it was much improved compared to the coffees we had tasted six months prior, so we decided to take it.
Tasting notes: In tasting this coffee, we thought this is a nicely naturally processed gesha with a strong purple fruit note, some strawberry, and some aromatics of purple flowers and a little incensed wood if you look for it. It's a solid coffee with some (but not too much) fermentation, at the right price.
